Sweet and Spicy Orange Tofu

I remember the first time I tried honey orange chicken and thinking this is really different, and it really is a different kind of sauce. I loved it and of course, had to recreate it into a vegan dish once I went vegan. This sweet and spicy orange tofu is easy to make and if you like orange sauce you will love this recipe.

    Sweet and Spicy Orange Tofu

    Ingredients

1/2 block extra firm tofu, 16oz 1 cup orange juice 1 pinch orange zest 2 tbsp agave 1/4 tsp chili pepper flakes 1 tsp soy sauce 1/8 tsp garlic powder 1/8 ground ginger 1/8 ground black pepper 2 tsp cornstarch 3 tsp water 1/2 tbsp oil, for tofu chopped green onion, optional

Instructions Cut tofu into thin pieces, and pat dry with paper towel.

Add oil into a large non stick pan and add in the tofu. Cook tofu on medium high heat, while pressing gently with a spatula to remove excess moisture. Cook for 3-4 minutes per side, or until tofu is golden brown.

Remove tofu from pan and set aside, while the sauce is made.

Add the orange juice into the pan, along with the rest of the ingredients. DO NOT add the water and cornstarch yet.

Mix the water and cornstarch to create a cornstarch slurry, and set aside.

Cook orange mixture down on medium high heat until there is half the amount left.

Set heat to low and add in the cornstarch slurry, whisk until the sauce has thickened. This should only take 1-2 minutes.

Add in cooked tofu, mix well with sauce.

Remove from heat, serve with rice, or noodles and garnish with green onions, ENJOY!
