Vegan Pork Chops | Puerto Rican Style

These vegan pork chops are so delicious, meaty and savory! No need to miss out on delicious dishes simply because you have cut out or cut back on meats. You can still have delicious plant based meat alternatives and for that you are in the right place!

Growing up I ate loads of fried foods and one of those, which we had very often were pork chops. Puerto Rican style pork chops and that just means, very flavored with all of the typical Hispanic Caribbean seasonings. Those are the seasonings that we will be using for this recipe. Also, this recipe is a spin off to my famous Vegan Steak Recipe. I created the based the same as that recipe but the seasoning and marinade are different.

The Seasonings That Make These Vegan Pork Chops Amazing

Adobo Seasoing: This seasoning can be found in the international or ethnic aisle of most supermarkets now a day. If there is Goya Brand in that aisle, that’s where you will find the Adobo seasoning.

Sazon Seasoning: Same aisle as the adobo☝🏽

Sofrito: Some supermarkets carry frozen vegan friendly sofritos, but you can also make your own by following my easy sofrito recipe here.

Vinegar: I had always used vinegar to help tenderize my meats before going plant based, but I have always also just love the taste that you get from a delicious marinade that has a splash of vinegar. The acidity helps to balance everything and the salt brings out the flavors.

What Is It Made From?

These “pork chops” are made from seitan.

What Is Seitan? Seitan is actually a vegan meat alternative, which has been used for many years. It’s now made much easier then before, because it is made with Vital Wheat Gluten Flour. Before people would do this whole process of rinsing of flour dough until all that was left what the gluten and that’s what they would make seitan with. Thank goodness for Vital wheat gluten flour!

Can I Use All Purpose Flour For This Recipe

Nope! I get this question a lot whenever I share plant based meats using vital wheat gluten flour. You actually can not use any other flour to make this. If you try using all purpose flour you will end up with cake, rather then seitan. That’s not what we are going for here!
