Vegan Steak With Mushroom Sauce
This delicious Vegan Steak With Mushroom Sauce recipe is a spinoff of my original Vegan Steak recipe. Almost a hybrid if you will. I took the setain recipe for my vegan Popeyes Spicy chicken Sandwich and turned those into steaks before breading them. Then I cooked it in the same manner as my famous Vegan Steak recipe, but I then took it one step further and made a delicious creamy garlic mushroom sauce to go over top of all that deliciousness.
You can customize this recipe in so many ways. Once you get the hang of making seitan you can make so many different plant based dishes with the same few ingredients and simply making a few changes.
How do you steam the seitan steaks?
The way I do it is with a steam rack. I add about 1 inch of water to the bottom of a pot or saucepan. Then I place the steam rack into the pot or saucepan and set the water to simmer on low heat. I then place the seitan steaks onto the rack. Careful not to allow the setain steaks to touch the water, to avoid sogginess. I then cover it and steam it for 1 hour. I check every 20 minutes or so to make sure that the water has not fully evaporated. If the water is started to evaporate or is fully evaporated add more water. To keep a good steam going.
Can I store/freeze the seitan steaks?
One of the things that make this Vegan Steak With Mushroom Sauce recipe so fantastic is the fact that it can be stored to easily. You can make the whole dish and freeze it for meal prep or store it in the fridge for a few days. You can also freeze the setian steaks after they are steamed, which makes this recipe so easy to make ahead.
Other Ideas: You can even make nuggets and sandwiches!
You can use this very recipe to make nuggets. You can cut the steamed seitan or cut the dough and steam it cut. Then bread the nuggets and cook how you wish. You can also just freeze the nuggets and drop them into stews that call for chunks of beef or chicken. Or slice the steamed seitan and make it into deli meat. You can take it a step further and fry the slices before storing for a more delicious deli meat.
